World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2019 – Honey

Over the last 10 years the number of bee colonies have been in sharp decline. At Randox Food Diagnostics we work tirelessly to develop drug residue screening platforms to promote antibiotic awareness and ensure that honey and honey products are antibiotic free.

Honey, in its natural, raw form, is unlike any other sweetener. It’s unique antibacterial and antifungal properties make it one of nature’s most unadulterated substances. Unsurprisingly, this is reflected in the control of antibiotic residues in honey in which a zero-tolerance policy is adopted.

In recent times, there have been multiple reports of honey adulteration which have had an impact upon global consumer confidence. In 2011, the apiculture industry was shaken when a percentage of Asian honey was discovered to contain illegal antibiotics and heavy metals. This lead to a trade ban on Chinese honey exports entering the USA and parts of the EU.

Randox Food Diagnostics provides drug residue and quality screening for honey on our Evidence Investigator & RX misano analysers which have been tailored to meet the needs of the global apiculture industry. With a comprehensive range of antibiotic screening arrays and the development of our new pesticide array. Honey screening solutions from Randox Food include screening for residues of: chloramphenicol, flumequine, streptomycin, tetracyclines and more.  Furthermore, we provide enzymatic screening solutions for Diastase, Glucose/Fructose, sucrose and Total Sugars in honey using the RX misano.

With two dedicated analysers and comprehensive test menu, Randox Food offers the ultimate honey screening solution to ensure the quality and safety of your end product.
