Penicillin cures, but wine makes people happy

Research conducted by King’s College London has discovered that red wine could be good for the health of your gut. Is it true then that Nobel Prize winner Alexander Fleming said that ‘penicillin cures, but wine makes people happy’?

Kings College claim that by drinking red wine helps increase the number and variety of useful bacteria that can live there.

The results of the study found that red wine drinkers are less likely to be overweight or have excess cholesterol compared to those who drink white wine, spirits or beer.

The instrumental factor in red wine which makes these reported health improvements is polyphenols which are micronutrients that are believed to act as fuel for the useful microbes living inside the gut.

The experts have had their say in the matter claiming that this is an observational study, so we cannot prove that the effect we see is caused by red wine. Other researchers have claimed that the study only tested alcoholic beverages and not tested people who only drink water, fruit juice etc.

Perhaps after all wine does just make people happy.
