Border Rejections due to high mycotoxin levels from Egypt, Germany, and Moldovia.
On the 11th of January 2022 at 15:57, Spain notified the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of high levels of Aflatoxin B1 in a shipment of sunflower seeds from Egypt. General measures have been put in place by the Spanish operator and the shipment has been detained and RASFF has made further enquiries into the situation. There was a level of Aflatoxin B1 at 34.79 ug/kg exceeding the maximum residue limits of (20 µg per \ kg).
On the 22nd of February 2022 at 15:33, Austria reported Germanys shipment of Rye to RASFF with and alert notification. The rye contained high levels (2460 mg/kg- Parts Per Million) of the mycotoxin Rye Ergot which exceeded the maximum residue limit of 1000 mg/kg. Since being reported the European commission made a follow up enquiry on the same day, and Germany made a follow up enquiry on the 10th of March 2022. Once the serious risk was flagged up, Austria returned the shipment back to consignor.
On the 4th of March 2022 at 12:18, there was a RASFF alert of the border control of Greece detaining a shipment from Moldovia. It was a border rejection of the Mycotoxin Aflatoxin B1 that was discovered in wheat cereals and bakery products. There were no follow ups, but from sampling the products there were both traces of Aflatoxin B1 8,6 */- 3,4 µg /kg ppb) when the maximin is 2,0 µg/kg ppb and Aflatoxin total of 8,6 */- 3,4 µg /kg ppb exceeding their maximum residue limits of 4,0.
