Doxycycline is a semisynthetic tetracycline derivative. As an antibiotic treatment it generally requires a less frequent dosage as it tends to be more active than other Tetracyclines giving it a longer half-life. Whilst antibiotics are used to treat disease, there is the risk that residues will be left in final products and be harmful to the consumer. The use of Doxycycline is regulated by the EC for use in all food production.
