Antimicrobial compounds are often used in food production to treat infections and also to function as growth promoters to ensure high yield. However, there are some health concerns regarding the presence of antimicrobial compounds in food and the development of antibiotic resistant strains of micro-organisms. As a result of these concerns, many countries have banned or limited the use of antimicrobials in food producing animals and have set maximum residue limits (MRLs) to ensure the safety of the product. These regulations have created the need for effective screening solutions.

The Randox Food Diagnostics Antimicrobial III Array provides a testing platform for nitrofuran metabolites AOZ, AMOZ, AHD and SEM. One single sample preparation can be used and sample analysis performed all in the one day due to a rapid 2 hour derivatisation step. Sample types include prawn, shrimp and tissue.
