Streptomycin is an aminoglycoside, a group of antibiotics which inhibits harmful bacterial growth in pathogens. The use of streptomycin as a growth promoter has been recorded worldwide and so has its ban. Traces of streptomycin have been recorded in honey samples and with government maximum residue limits set, reliable screening methods are necessary for the early detection of this antibiotic in samples.
