Sulphamethoxazole FAST ELISA

The sulphonamides (ie. sulphamethoxazole) are competitive inhibitors of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase in the folic acid metabolism cycle, which inhibit bacterial growth by preventing p-aminobenzoic acid incorporation into folic acid. Sulphamethoxazole is extensively used in veterinary medicine for the prophylaxis and treatment of infectious diseases in fish and shrimp and as feed additives to promote growth in food producing animals. Effective screening methods are required to prevent potential residues from entering the food chain.

The Randox Food Diagnostics Sulphamethoxazole FAST ELISA test kit rapidly detects Sulphamethoxazole antibiotic residues, applicable sample types include prawn, shrimp and fish.
